Bentoism

Packing lunches and love

Bentoist

Due to work and study, I am on hiatus until mid-2011. In the meantime, it's mostly take-outs and frozen lunches for me.

I'm a FTWM to a little princess and wife to a wonderful man who absolutely loves my bentos! I bento primarily for him and when my princess eventually starts school, I'll bento for her too. Why do I do it? Just because it says, "I love you."

Lunch & Breakfast Bentos

Monday's lunch consists of cooked shrimp, dressed differently in 2 bentos, one with mayonnaise and the other in just ponzu & sesame seeds. I bought a bag of frozen tiger prawns last week, not paying attention and only found out that they were cooked shrimp. (Pays to read the package, I supposed, but they used to have frozen shrimp in the same compartment previously.) Cooked shrimp works though. The other items in the bentos are furikake sushi riceball, and chinese peas.
Lately, I started fixing breakfast bentos since my husband and I developed a pretty bad habit of hitting the drive-thrus on the way to school/work. McCafe calls out to us every workday morning as we drive by. A breakfast bento with the lunch bento takes care of that. I went ahead and bought the Sterilite Ultra Seal 20 piece set from Target a few months back, so I have enough containers to go around.
On most days, the breakfast bentos would contain peanut butter toast with some fruit but today, I went with something different, since I have a little more resources on hand after my visits to Apple Hill. In the bento (left), there is a grilled cheese sandwich, made with monterey jack and apple smoked gouda, a frozen mini quiche (from last week), some blackberry pie (from Apple Hill), and a cup of apple-peach jello. It's probably too much food for breakfast, but I wouldn't mind some blackberry pie for a mid-morning snack!

Your bentos make me hungry. I must say I haven't had the energy to cook with much enthusiasm of late. :P

I've never done any bento myself, but I enjoy seeing them so much and I have to say... you have some really delicious and lovely looking ones. Thanks for sharing them with us!
